You probably do not know this, but I spent numerous years traveling as a freelance writer in my youth. All those hotel beds, and friend’s couches did nothing good for my back. Therefore, I am in the process of educating myself on Sealy Backcare Elite. The time has come for me to show more respect, and gratitude to my body, and a good mattress sounds like the perfect way to start this kind of appreciation.

While I am examining this product, I figure I should share my findings. As I would surely be very happy to find someone else had done a rundown for me.

It probably goes without saying that this is a firm mattress. The thing that strikes me as important, and persuasive right off the bat is that Sealy worked with orthopaedic surgeons (some people I hope to never need to seek medical help from) to design it. Thus, I would like to consider the act of obtaining a better suited mattress as being proactive in avoiding those surgeons. Please note I do not mean any offense to any orthopaedists, I simply want to avert medical contact with them, which I think is obvious, but you never can tell.

It comes as no surprise to me that what most concerned my wife was what it was covered in, and if it was the same on both sides. I for one would not have expected that to be of any consequences considering we will be concealing it with sheets and a duvet. However, it was quickly brought to my attention that if it is not the same on both sides it is not meant to be flipped, or rotated over the years. She had a good point, and aside from that, I should be thanking my lucky stars she likes a firm mattress. I must remember to tell her how that pleases me.

We both noted it also has a zero deflection spring system that absorbs movement and weight thus eliminating buckling and bulging. Oh, and I nearly got side-tracked and forgot to state that it is covered in luxury damask fabric, in case you like my wife are concerned. That pretty much sums up what we’ve gathered.

As an aside, we did have a bit of a giggle because this Sealy mattress is touted as being ideal for anyone above average stature, and this will be lost on my wife, as she is only 5 feet tall. She thought upon pointing that out she may be able to convince me to let the dog finally sleep in the bed with us. Maybe to show her some appreciation for having put up with me all these years I should just give in.
